Terracrua design welcomes you to an inspiring journey in Lavre, Montemor-o-Novo, where we explore the possibility for transformation of a sandy riverside into a thriving structured farm. Led by our talented designer Nuno Mamede Santos, our team delves into the potential of this land and shares our vision and principles for regenerative design. Join us as we unveil the beauty of this landscape and our commitment to creating an enchanting edible landscape, while addressing immediate challenges and ensuring the feasibility of our design process.
Unveiling the Natural Canvas:
This litle farm has a picturesque beauty, characterized by sandy riversides and an abundance of cork oaks, acacia, and eucalyptus trees, offers a unique opportunity to merge productivity with ecological harmony. At terracrua design, we envision a farm that embraces the concept of edible landscapes, providing a regenerative, self sufficient and immersive experience where visitors can indulge in the diverse flavors of the forest gardens.
Addressing Immediate Challenges and Questions:
During Nuno’s visit, he engaged in thought-provoking conversations with the client, delving into immediate problems and questions while exploring the feasibility of our design process. This collaborative approach allowed us to identify key areas of focus that will not only overcome challenges but also enhance the long-term viability of the project.
Exploring Key Design Considerations:
Let’s delve into these key considerations, where we strive to find innovative solutions that respect the terracrua design ethos while addressing immediate concerns:
Boundaries and Fencings:
Creating boundaries that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings is essential. By discussing fencing options with the client, we ensured that our participation not only met their aesthetic preferences but also provided practical solutions for safeguarding the farm while promoting biodiversity.
Biomass Management:
During the visit, we assessed the existing tree species and identified opportunities for sustainable biomass management. This allowed us to determine the optimal strategies for utilizing the available resources, thereby addressing immediate concerns related to tree maintenance and promoting regenerative practices.
Access and Road Construction:
Navigating the challenging terrain, particularly the creation of a suitable access road, presented an immediate concern. By assessing the land and discussing potential solutions with the client, we gained valuable insightsfor the eventual project, ensuring accessibility without compromising the natural beauty and ecological balance of the site.
Water Management:
Water availability and conservation are crucial considerations, especially in a sandy riverside environment. By evaluating the existing water sources and discussing water management strategies during the visit, we gained a deeper understanding of the specific challenges and opportunities, enabling us to develop a comprehensive and sustainable water management plan.
“With its unique landscape and potential, I envision the creation of an enchanting little farm in Lavre. Although the land poses challenges, particularly in terms of establishing a good access road, I firmly believe that we have the power to make a transformative difference,” expressed Nuno, brimming with optimism and determination.
